Have you ever noticed a foul smell coming from your garbage disposal or dishwasher? It’s a very common problem with a very simple fix! Keep reading for a few simple tips and tricks to help prevent or clear up these
odors in your kitchen!
Dishwasher Odors:
Use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar in your dishwasher. Make sure when doing this, that the dishwasher is completely empty. This will help to eliminate odors and clean the unit well.
When you are putting your dishes in your dishwasher, make sure you rinse them well to prevent gunk and buildup in your dishwasher drain.
Garbage Disposal Odors:
- How you actually use your disposal is important for this one in the day to day. Make sure that when in use, you are running water and the disposal simultaneously, and even a little longer than the disposal itself, in order to make sure everything has passed through completely.
- You will also want to make sure that you are running the disposal long enough to grind everything well enough to pass through.
- To clean, try freezing vinegar in ice cube trays, empty them into the disposal and grind them up.
Always remember – never put grease or oil down your drain! Not only could this cause a clog or backup of your drain, it can also cause ghastly odors to infiltrate your kitchen!
